Online Timer

Pick a preset or set any time. One tap to start, a clear chime at zero — and the countdown lives in the tab title, so it stays visible while you work in another window.

Timer vs countdown timer

This page counts down a number of minutes and seconds from now — for tea, sprints and meetings. If you need the time remaining until a date (a launch, an exam, New Year), that's our countdown timer. And for repeating work/break cycles, the Pomodoro timer switches intervals automatically.

How this timer works

Everything runs in your browser — no app to install, no account, and nothing you do here leaves your device. Press Start and the countdown begins; the remaining time also ticks in the browser tab title, so you can switch to another window and still see it at a glance. At zero, a clear chime plays once (if your device isn't muted). Reset returns to the time you set.

Need a duration that isn't a preset? Type any minutes and seconds into the custom field. For repeating work/break cycles, the Pomodoro timer automates the 25/5 rhythm; for counting down to a date rather than minutes, use the countdown timer.

Honest limits you should know

  • Phones may pause background tabs. Mobile browsers throttle inactive pages to save battery, which can delay the chime. On a phone, keep the tab in the foreground and the screen on for anything important.
  • A sleeping computer pauses the timer. For long countdowns, set your machine not to sleep.
  • The chime plays at your device volume, once. For another-room use (kitchen, laundry), take the device with you.

We'd rather tell you this upfront than let a burnt dinner do it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this timer free? Do I need an account?

Completely free, no sign-up, no ads interrupting the countdown. It's a page, not an app.

Can I run several timers at once?

Yes — open this page in multiple tabs. Each tab counts independently, and each tab title shows its own remaining time, which effectively labels them.

How accurate is it?

It tracks real elapsed time (not just ticks), so a foreground timer stays accurate to the second even if the page briefly lags.

What happens if I refresh the page?

The countdown resets to your chosen time. Set it again before walking away.
