10 Minute Timer

One tap, 10 minutes, a clear chime at zero — and the countdown lives in the tab title, so you can work in another window meanwhile.

Ten minutes: the "just start" interval

Ten minutes is the most effective trick against procrastination we know: commit to only ten minutes of the task you're avoiding. Starting is the hard part — once the timer runs, most people keep going after the chime. If you don't, you still did ten minutes more than zero.

It's also the classic tidy-up sprint: one room, ten minutes, no phone. The visible countdown turns cleaning into a race, which is why parents use exactly this trick with kids ("beat the timer").

For the body, ten minutes covers a legitimate mini-workout — e.g. a simple circuit of squats, push-ups and mountain climbers repeated until zero — or the lower end of a power nap. Sleep researchers generally put the ideal nap at 10–20 minutes: long enough to refresh, short enough to avoid sleep inertia (the groggy feeling of waking from deep sleep).

Frequently asked questions

Is a 10-minute nap actually useful?

Yes — studies on brief naps show measurable alertness gains from naps as short as 10 minutes, with less grogginess than 30+ minute naps. Lie down, start the timer, don't check the clock.

Does the countdown survive switching tabs?

Yes, and the remaining time ticks in the tab title so you can see it from another window.

Can I chain several 10-minute sprints?

Sure — hit Reset and Start again. For structured work/break cycles, the Pomodoro timer automates the rhythm.

Will the chime wake me from a nap?

If your device volume is up and the tab stays in the foreground — yes. On phones, keep the screen on (see the note about mobile background tabs on our online timer page).
