The two formulas that run your semester
Can miss: attended ÷ required − total · Must attend in a row: (required × total − attended) ÷ (1 − required)
The honest math of skipping
- Recovery is always slower than the fall: one missed class below the line takes three attended ones to undo at 75%. The math is asymmetric by design.
- Early semester misses are cheap, late ones are fatal — with few total classes left, there may literally not be enough sessions remaining to recover. Check before, not after.
- Medical leaves usually don't fix the ratio unless your institution formally excludes those days — ask the office how they count.
Frequently asked questions
How is attendance percentage calculated?
Classes attended ÷ total classes held × 100. Attending 58 of 80 classes is 72.5% — below the common 75% requirement.
How many classes can I miss and stay above 75%?
The calculator answers this exactly: it solves attended ÷ (total + missed) ≥ 75% for your numbers. The green verdict shows your remaining "budget" of misses.
I'm below 75% — how do I recover?
Only by attending consecutively: each attended class raises both counters. The red verdict shows the exact streak you need — e.g., from 58/80, you must attend the next 8 classes without a single miss to reach 75%.
Why 75%?
It's the most common minimum in Indian universities (UGC norms) and many colleges worldwide for exam eligibility. Your institution may use 65%, 80% or another line — the required field is editable.
