If the answer is over 100%, you'll get the honest verdict instead of false hope — and knowing that early is a strategy, not a defeat: it may be time to talk to the professor about extra credit.

Reading the verdict honestly
- 0% or below: your goal is already locked in — the final can't take it away. Sleep well.
- Up to ~70%: normal preparation covers this comfortably.
- 70–90%: a serious but fair challenge — build a study plan, not an all-nighter.
- 90–100%: possible, but have a plan B: ask about extra credit now, not after.
- Over 100%: math says no — through the final alone. Time to talk to your teacher about other options. Better to know tonight than after the exam.

How is the required final exam grade calculated?
Needed = (Goal − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight, where Weight is the final's share of your total grade as a decimal. If your current grade is 78%, you want 85%, and the final counts 30%: (85 − 78×0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 100.3% — just out of reach.
What if the calculator shows more than 100%?
The goal isn't reachable through the final alone. Options: ask about extra credit, check whether any assignments can be resubmitted, or adjust the target — a slightly lower goal may be fully secured already.
Where do I find the final exam weight?
In the course syllabus, usually as a grade breakdown like "Homework 40%, Midterm 30%, Final 30%". If it's not stated, ask the teacher — it changes this math completely.
